The World According To is a new blog aiming to address both serious world issues and light hearted aspects of every day life. There are two sides to every story and acknowledging perspective is becoming increasingly important in a modern, media-orientated world.
With the media understandably prioritising the most pressing issues on a day to day basis, there are many things that do not get the air time they should. I want to change that, the art of reporting is severely underestimated and under-acknowledged. Nobody sees the world transparently, we have innate likes and dislikes. These eventually develop into music tastes, taste in food, political orientations, fashion, approaches to decision making etc. We spend so much time arguing about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ that maybe there is a bigger picture we are ignoring.
Why address this?
The rise of sensationalism has sky-rocketed in the 21st Century with the lines between truth and provocation becoming increasingly blurry. I want to try and prioritise a different line – that between opinion and perspective.
Everybody has a story to tell. But then again, there are at least two sides to every story. How do we know who’s right? How do we know what’s true? What information do we prioritise? These seemingly impossible questions are what I want to embrace. Media for me is increasingly becoming more of an art from in itself that opens itself up for discussion rather than seeking to convey one specific truth as it has perhaps done in the past. Much like literature, music, or artwork, perspective is key. I want to encourage people to see the world through their own lenses rather than exclusively through the camera of their chosen news platform.
